Practical info
Everything you need to know before, during and after your tattoo. This advice is general: on the day, the instructions Jeremy gives you always come first.
Preparation
How should I prepare for my session?
Get a good night's sleep and eat a proper meal before you come. Drink water, and avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand: it thins the blood and makes the work harder. The area should be clean, moisturised in the days before, with no sunburn or irritation. No need to shave it: that is done at the studio. Wear comfortable clothes that give easy access to the area, and bring something to keep you busy during long sessions.
Are there any contraindications?
Some situations mean postponing the session or discussing it first: blood-thinning medication, pregnancy or breastfeeding, a skin condition or recent scar on the area, a known allergy, a fever or an ongoing infection. Raise them directly with Jeremy before the session, and ask your doctor if in doubt. No medical information is requested on this website.
Aftercare
How do I care for my tattoo in the first days?
Keep the protective film on for as long as Jeremy tells you. Then, always with clean hands: • wash the tattoo 2 to 3 times a day with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap; • pat it dry with a clean paper towel, without rubbing; • apply a thin layer of the recommended healing cream, without overdoing it. Keep going until it has healed, usually two to three weeks.
What should I avoid while it heals?
For about three weeks: no baths, swimming pools, sea, sauna or steam room (short showers are fine), no sun or UV on the tattoo, and no sport that rubs or makes the area sweat during the first days. Do not scratch or pick at flaking skin: it will come off on its own. Wear loose, clean clothes over the area.
Is it normal for it to peel or itch?
Yes. After a few days the skin flakes a little and itches: that is the healing process. The tattoo may look dull for a while before it regains its sharpness. The surface heals in two to three weeks, the deeper skin in about a month.
When should I be concerned?
Spreading redness, heat or pain that increases after the first few days, pus or a fever are not normal: see a doctor, and let Jeremy know.
How do I keep a tattoo sharp in the long run?
Sunlight is ink's worst enemy: once healed, protect the tattoo with SPF 50 sunscreen. Well-moisturised skin also keeps blacks deeper.
